(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police arrested a Setauket man for burglarizing a residence and for criminal trespass of another residence in Sayville on Thursday, October 15.
A man entered a residence on Barnsley Lane and took jewelry and gift cards. He fled when the female owner of the residence came home and discovered him in the house. The owner called 911 and gave a description of the suspect.

A short time later a local resident spotted a man who fit the description of someone who had recently burglarized a home in the area, and the man was able to detain the suspect until police arrived at approximately 8:30 p.m.
Fifth Squad detectives arrested Brian Cook, 45, and charged him with Burglary 2nd Degree, Criminal Trespass 3rd Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th Degree. The stolen items from the house were recovered.
Cook is being held in the Fifth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on October 16.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
