(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs after he struck and killed a motorcyclist in Coram on Saturday, November 28.
Thomas Heissen Buttel was traveling northbound on his 1972 Harley Davidson on Old Town Road when he was struck by a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta traveling southbound, when the driver, Sabelo Ndala attempted to make a left onto Hyson Way at approximately 1:55 p.m.

Heissen Buttel, 56, of South Setauket, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital where he died from his injuries. Ndala was not injured.
Ndala, 22, of Port Jefferson Station was arrested for Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs, Operating a Motor Vehicle without an Interlock Device, and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle 2nd Degree. Ndala will be held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on November 29.
Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Vehicular Crime Unit at (631) 852-6555. The investigation is continuing.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
