(Long Island, NY) The First Squad reports the arrest of a Roosevelt man for an Assault that occurred at 1:28am on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in Roosevelt.
According to Detectives, the male victim, 43, and a male friend, 56, while walking northbound on Nassau Road did observe the defendant Joseph Dempsey, 56, attempting to light two glass bottles, both of which had a rag sticking out. The defendant yelled a verbal statement at the victim and pulled out a bayonet style knife and stabbed him in the left wrist causing a deep puncture wound.

The victim and his friend crossed the street and called the police. The defendant followed the two men and when police arrived, all three men were still on scene in the vicinity of 338 Nassau Road. The defendant was arrested without incident at 2:00am. Police Officers recovered the knife and six glass beer bottles each containing a cloth wick. The victim was treated for his injury.
Defendant Joseph Dempsey is charged with Assault 2nd Degree and six counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
