(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Major Case Unit detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Copiague on Sunday, May 22.
First Precinct police officers responded to Oak Street after a 911 caller reported a man injured, lying in the roadway, at approximately 1:25 a.m. An investigation by detectives and members of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the man’s injuries were the result of being struck by a vehicle.

The victim, Benjamin Zuniga, 32, of Copiague, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the vehicle, Jamie Phillips, 26, of Farmingdale, who spoke with responding officers at the scene, was not injured.
