(Riverhead, NY) Martha Clara Vineyards is proud to announce that its 2010 Merlot was voted Best Merlot in New York State in the ‘Best of’ Category Awards at the New York Wine & Food Classic Competition held in Watkins Glen, NY in August of this year.
Governor Andrew M. Cuomo of New York State was present at the Event where he announced the Vineyards’ 2010 Merlot along with the other winners of the New York Wine & Food Classic Competition. The Governor also announced the launch of a new television ad campaign promoting New York State’s award-winning wines, a campaign that will help position New York State as a global leader in wine production. “Our local wineries are producing truly world-class wines, and we want these businesses to thrive and people to enjoy a taste of New York. Our promotional efforts are putting New York’s wine products on a national and international stage” stated Cuomo in a speech he delivered at the Event.
DESCRIPTION:
A feast for all the senses, Martha Clara Vineyards 2010 Merlot has been described as possessing a rich garnet color embodying notes of cinnamon and cocoa with medium bodied soft easy drinking tannins. Every sip of this wine offers a delicious blend that marry the flavors of black cherry, dried cranberry and velvety tannins to seduce your taste buds.
PRODUCTION DETAILS:
The grapes for this wine were grown sustainably on Martha Clara Vineyards’ Northville farm and were machine harvested on October 10, 2010. The grapes were crushed, destemmed, and cold soaked for 72 hours prior to fermentation. Fermentation was initiated and lasted for 6 days and the wine remained on skins 34 days past fermentation. The wine was pressed off of the skins and moved to barrel where it was aged for 16 months and racked 6 times. This wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

This easy drinking Merlot is equally versatile in pairing with a range of dishes. Serve it with a variety of pasta dishes, grilled beef or bison, soft or hard cheeses. Drink it now through 2023. No stranger to being recognized for its award winning wines, Martha Clara Vineyards received The Jefferson Trophy, given to the Vineyards’ 2010 Estate Reserve Riesling by the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Association (for the best wine in New York State); and the Governor’s Cup in 2011 for the Vineyards’ New York State Riesling.
The Vineyard also recently received ‘Sustainable Vineyard’ Status as a member of Long Island Sustainable Winegrowers.
