Mather Hospital Names B. Hannah Ortiz, MD Director of Department of Gynecology
(Port Jefferson, NY) – B. Hannah Ortiz, MD, has been named director of the Department of Gynecology at John T. Mather Memorial Hospital.

Ortiz, of East Setauket, specializes in gynecologic oncology using minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Mather Hospital. She has a private practice at Sound Gynecologic Oncology, PLLC in East Setauket and Mattituck, focusing on complex pelvic, benign, and cancer surgery. Previously, she was Director of Gynecologic Oncology and Robotic Surgery for the East End Health Alliance.
She also is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
Ortiz earned her medical degree from Mount Sinai School of Medicine, NY and completed an internship in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. She completed her residency in radiology at The Mount Sinai Hospital. She also completed an internship and residency in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Stanford University Hospital, CA, and was a clinical fellow at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ Harvard Medical School in Boston.
Ortiz received the 2011 Sass Foundation Keynote Speaker Award from the Sass Foundation of New York, which focuses on research, education and patient care in the fight against cancer and blood related diseases. She also was named one of the 2010 Top 50 Women in Business on Long Island by Long Island Business News.
