Chris McGrath for New York State Senate in the 9th Senatorial District, announced his support today for a measure in the State budget that would give firefighters to increase the volunteer firefighter tax credit from $200 to $300.
“Our volunteer firefighters are some of the best firefighters in the nation. After the devastating attacks on 9-11, brave men and women from these volunteer departments answered the call and helped in the search and recovering efforts at Ground Zero. I strongly urge the State Senate and Assembly to increase the volunteer firefighter tax credit from $200 to $300 in the State Budget,” said McGrath.
Since 2006, the last time the tax credit was increased, the cost of living has steadily risen and the challenges faced by first responders have grown tremendously.
Volunteer Firefighters, also risk their health by handling hazardous materials incidents and emergency medical calls all on volunteer non paid basis.
This measure is currently being supported by State Senator William Larkin, a member of the Senate Majority.
