(LONG ISLAND, NY) Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) joined Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb and many of his colleagues at a press conference today to urge passage of the Achieving Pupil Preparedness and Learning Excellence (APPLE) Plan.
Based on the recommendations of the true stakeholders in our children’s education, parents and educators, heard during the course of 11 statewide hearings conducted by Assembly Republicans, the Assemblymembers called for action and passage of comprehensive education reform that halts Common Core and corrects its many flaws.
Assemblyman Michael Montesano (front, left) looks on while Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb presents the APPLE Plan to reform Common Core.
“It is plain to see Common Core is failing,” said Montesano. “Correcting its flaws and implementation is an issue is more important than scoring political points. With the next round of high-stakes standardized tests rapidly approaching, we need to address Common Core and institute real reforms immediately.
“The APPLE Plan takes the input of the people most invested in our children’s education into account and lays out a comprehensive strategy that fairly funds our schools and lets our educators get back to what they do best – ensure our children receive the top-notch education they need to have a happy and successful future. I urge the Assembly Majority and the Senate to look at the APPLE Plan and enact its reforms immediately. Our children and teachers deserve it.”
