(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head) is co-sponsoring legislation that would provide the Long Island office of the Department of Public Service the ability to review the rates and charges of the Long Island Power Authority (LIPA). Assembly Bill 6534 would require LIPA to disclose all compensation for review, including all fees that are paid in connection with the Public Service Enterprise Group of Long Island (PSEG-LI).
In recent years the PSEG-LI has refused to disclose information. This bill would ensure that information regarding fees and compensation is accessible to the public and Long Island office of the Department of Public Service.
“This legislation is a common-sense precautionary measure to ensure that Long Island electric companies are not inappropriately increasing costs for ratepayers,” said Montesano. “By allowing the Department of Public Service to review any rates or charges of LIPA we are simply monitoring the activity through the lens of an independent party. As representatives of the public, the Long Island Office of Department of Public Service would have the ability to provide the hardworking Long Island families the voice they deserve on issues that impact them directly.”
The legislation has bipartisan support from 14 Long Island Assembly members and is currently awaiting action from the Assembly Committee on Corporations, Authorities and Commissions.
