Legislation raises income cap for those applying for STAR exemption
(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) is co-sponsoring legislation that would raise the income cap for senior citizens applying for Enhanced STAR exemptions. Assembly bill 7793, if passed, would help make home ownership more affordable for seniors by rectifying the fact that the STAR program has not been adjusted for cost-of-living increases over the years.
“Since many of our senior citizens live on fixed incomes, annual rises in property taxes and cost-of-living can create an untenable situation,” said Montesano. “By increasing the income cap for Enhanced STAR benefits, we can provide further tax relief for seniors and help them afford to stay in the homes they have lived and raised a family in for years to come.”
