A statement from Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,C,I-Glen Head)
(Long Island, NY) “With much contention, and one large omnibus bill, this year’s Legislative Session has finally come to an end. While were able to deliver on some important issues, including measures to provide property tax relief for Long Island homeowners, we once again failed to provide the mandate relief that has been proposed time and time again.
“We passed numerous pieces of legislation that will help to improve many different localities during our extended time in Albany. These bills, while small in scale, make a large difference for local residents and communities statewide. It was on the big ticket items, however, where this year’s session fell apart.
“It’s disappointing that despite the change in leadership, the continuously flawed, three-men-in-a-room process left many issues unresolved. The only way to fairly represent all residents and districts, from Long Island to Buffalo, is to give input on these crucial issues, like local control and property-tax support. I am hopeful that our newly-elected leaders have learned from the shortcomings of their first go-around, and that next session we can work together to achieve real progress and results on the many important issues left unanswered this year.”
