(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) is joining Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci (R,C,WF,I-Huntington Station) to sponsor legislation calling for stronger carbon monoxide testing in restaurants. The bill comes in response to the carbon monoxide leak at Legal Sea Food in Huntington Station this past weekend, killing one person and hospitalizing 27 others. With carbon monoxide testing already in place in several different venues, the Assemblymen are working with Sen. Carl Marcellino to ensure restaurants can prevent another tragedy by having proper carbon monoxide standards put in place.
“As lawmakers, we must ensure that tragedies like this do not occur again,” said Montesano. “We have standards in place so events like this don’t occur in hotels, hospitals, senior-assisted living and nursing homes and it’s important to make sure this doesn’t happen in restaurants either. This is not a partisan issue; we must act to protect our residents and prevent events like this from transpiring again.”
“The events of this past weekend are a terrible tragedy and I want to express my sincere condolences to the friends and family of Steven Nelson. We all know that carbon monoxide poisoning can have serious health consequences, and unfortunately its impact was felt by many in our community. Assemblyman Montesano and I will be working closely with the Huntington Town fire marshal, police and health officials to make sure that steps are in place to prevent such a tragedy from occurring again in the future,” said Lupinacci.
