(Oceanside, NY) MTA Long Island Railroad president Helena Williams has been appointed to the Board of Directors of South Nassau Communities Hospital.
“Helena’s business and leadership acumen will be vital to the board’s strategic planning for the growth and expansion of South Nassau,” said Richard J. Murphy, president and CEO of South Nassau. “She has a thorough understanding of the challenges we face and the steps we must take to ensure that South Nassau is always in position to meets the needs of the communities it serves.”

During her tenure at the LIRR, Ms. Williams has overseen the reorganization of key departments and functions as part of an MTA-wide effort to improve efficiency. The LIRR employs 6,700 employees and runs a system of more than 700 miles of track on 11 different branches, stretching from Montauk to Penn Station. The LIRR serves more than 81.5 million riders.
Before her appointment to the LIRR, the transportation executive and attorney followed a distinguished career in public service, including a term as president of the MTA Long Island Bus and later as Nassau County Deputy County Executive. The long-time Garden City resident graduated from St. John’s University School of Law with a juris doctor degree and from SUNY at Oneonta with a bachelor’s degree.
