(Long Island, NY) Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Dean Murray (R,C,I-East Patchogue) and Senator Tom Croci allowing the Village of Mastic Beach to sell off tax liens and clear foreclosures on vacant, a.k.a. zombie, homes was signed into law by Gov. Cuomo. Assembly Bill 6212-A helps Mastic Beach effectively and efficiently manage its debt collection on foreclosed properties en route to eliminating blight and increasing revenue without having to resort to tax hikes.
“I’m pleased to see this important piece of legislation signed into law,” said Murray. “This bill takes the needed steps to help the village recoup debt, manage foreclosed property and increase revenue. I’m hopeful that this will help to make Mastic Beach an even better, more appealing community for residents and small businesses and I thank the governor for signing the bill into law.”
“This is the perfect example of how non-partisan collaboration works in the best interest of the Village tax payers. Thank you and kudos to all elected officials who made this happen,” said Maura Spery, Mayor of Mastic Beach.
“Our special thanks and gratitude to Assemblyman Murray and Senator Croci for giving us another tool in our toolbox to help our community,” Mastic Beach Deputy Mayor Bruce Summa said.
“Many thanks to Governor Cuomo for signing this bill and to our Assemblyman Dean Murray and our Senator Tom Croci, for sponsoring this important legislation that will help us recoup tax dollars to further advance the much needed programs to improve our quality of life,” said Mastic Beach Trustee Elizabeth Manzella.
