(Long Island, NY) Assemblyman Dean Murray’s (R,C,I-East Patchogue) legislation assisting Sandy relief victims was signed into law this week by Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Bill 7204 (sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Tom Croci) requires NY Rising to issue quarterly reports on pending storm-damage claims. NY Rising’s track record of helping families recover in the wake of Superstorm Sandy has been inconsistent and lacking in accountability. This legislation will better help coordinate the ongoing recovery efforts and keep residents informed of claim statuses.
“As the thousands of Long Island families displaced by Superstorm Sandy continue to get their lives back on track, we need to make sure our government can provide the answers to their questions,” said Murray. “NY Rising’s efforts have fallen far short of its goals, leaving residents frustrated by a lack of progress in their claims and unable to finish their rebuilding efforts.
“This bill brings accountability and transparency to the process and keeps residents in the loop in the recovery process. I commend Sen. Croci for sponsoring this bill in the Senate and I applaud Gov. Cuomo for signing it into law. Doing so is a real, meaningful commitment to helping Long Island families move forward.”
