Freeport, NY – Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker, Chair of the Health -Social Services Committee, Minority Leader Kevan Abrahams will be joined by PTRC Corp in feeding hundreds of homeless children from Freeport and their families, for a pre-Thanksgiving holiday feast with all the trimmings.
Hundreds who live in shelters, hotels, or foster care will sit down for a gourmet meal at Rachel’s Waterside Grill on the Nautical Mile in Freeport. Local employees of PTRC will be serving cornbread, salad, cranberry sauce, turkey, stuffing, gravy, sweet and mashed potatoes, glazed carrots and apple pie.
Nassau Officials will discuss the 3,000 homeless people in Nassau County last year – at least 1,800 of which are children – living in shelters or transitional housing. That’s an increase from the year before. More than 280,000 Long Islanders receive emergency food each year – that’s 64,900 people every week.
