Recent hot and humid weather has brought more local residents to swimming pools and beaches causing safety concerns and drownings across Long Island
(Long Island, NY) Nassau University Medical Center President and CEO, Dr. Victor F. Politi will join police officials and EMS in emergency water drowning prevention training Tonight, Monday August 17, 2014 at 7:00pm.
More residents are using swimming pools, the beaches and boats in the current hot and humid weather, raising concerns across Long Island. Yesterday a 6 year old child was hospitalized in critical condition after nearly drowning in Bay Shore.
According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, hospital emergency rooms have treated an estimated 5,400 pool- or spa-related non-fatal drownings nationwide each year from 2012 through 2014 involving children younger than 15. This is an increase from last year’s report, which showed an average estimated 4,900 non-fatal drownings each year from 2011 through 2013.
The training will take place at the Nassau University Medical Center located at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike, East Meadow, NY 11554.
