(Long Island, NY) The Seventh Squad reports the details of two arrests from an incident that occurred at 6:29pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 in Wantagh.
According to Detectives, defendants Christopher Wegner, 28, of Wantagh and Angelica Velotti, 24, of Wantagh, became involved in a verbal argument that escalated to a physical altercation on Fir Street and Merrick Road in Wantagh. Defendant Wegner threw his motorcycle helmet at defendant Velotti striking her in the head causing an injury and dizziness.

As Officers attempted to place defendant Wegner into custody he began fighting and resisting arrest. At that time, defendant Velotti began physically interfering and was told numerous times to stand back but ignored those lawful orders.
As officers placed defendant Wegner in custody, an MTA officer while assisting in the arrest did sustain a fractured finger on his left hand. A Nassau County Ambulance Technician observed defendant Velotti remove a black handle gravity knife from her boot and throw it to the ground. He recovered the knife and gave it to the Officers to be properly secured.
Defendant Angelica Velotti is charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Obstructing Governmental Administration. Defendant Christopher Wegner is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest. Both defendants will be arraigned on September 3, 2015 in First District Court 99 Main Street Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
