(Long Island, NY) The Homicide Squad reports the details of the arrest of an East Meadow man for Menacing that occurred on Friday, June 19, 2015 at 8:48 p.m. in East Meadow.
According to detectives, the defendant Jason Wissel, 49, was involved in an altercation over a parking condition with a neighbor which escalated to threatening him with a gun. Wissel returned to his home as officers from the First Precinct, Emergency Service Unit, Canine Unit and Bureau of Special Operations unit responded and established a perimeter. Officers attempted to make contact with defendant Wissel who then exited the front door of the home armed with a sawed off shot gun and long rifle.

The suspect pointed these weapons at approaching officers placing them in fear for their lives. The Officers fired at the suspect, disarmed him of his weapons, he did suffer minor injuries and was transported to NUMC where he was treated and released to the First Squad for completion of the arrest process. During a search of the home several weapons and a cache of ammunition was secured, invoiced for safe keeping and further investigation.
Wissel is charge with two counts of Menacing 2nd Degree and three counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. He will be arraigned on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
