(Long Island, NY) Peconic Landing is pleased to announce neurology expert Dr. Caroline Gatewood has joined its medical staff as a consultant for its state-of-the-art Memory Care Center.
In her new position, Dr. Gatewood will assist in the development of individual patient care plans as well as overall program development. She will also serve on Peconic Landing’s Quality Assurance Committee, which oversees and develops advancements in patient care.
The new 12,000 square foot, $9 million memory care center is slated to open in May 2016, and will provide a home-like environment for as many as 16 residents living with memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s dementia. It is one of several new additions being built as part of Peconic Landing’s $44 million expansion.
“We have traveled throughout the country learning from the most innovative programming available,” said Gregory J. Garrett, executive vice president and administrator of health services at Peconic Landing. “With Dr. Gatewood’s expertise, the memory care center will offer the best in patient-centered care.”
Dr. Gatewood comes to the organization following an extensive career as a diagnostician and educator. A private practice physician since 2001, she currently serves on Eastern Long Island Hospital’s Board of Trustees and is former chair of medical affairs and quality assurance for the East End Health Alliance.
She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed her residency in neurology at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. From 1996 to 2001 she served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at Stony Brook; as well as the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center where she stayed until 2002.
“I am very excited to be a part of the team that is going to offer a new paradigm of care for patients with memory disorders,” Dr. Gatewood said. “This center is going to be a model that others will undoubtedly emulate.”
In her new capacity, Dr. Gatewood will be offering patient appointments at Peconic Landing’s Wellness Center, available to the greater community the third and final Wednesdays of each month. To schedule an appointment contact her Riverhead office at (631) 734-2450.
“Dr. Gatewood has been the neurologist of choice for many of our members here at Peconic Landing, and for good reason,” said Robert J. Syron, president/CEO of Peconic Landing. “Not many communities have the opportunity to collaborate with a specialist of her proficiency. She will be an asset in providing our members with the best quality of care available.”
