Featuring Artists Anthony Lombardo & Toby Haynes; Starting Friday, February 7; Presented by East End Arts
(RIVERHEAD, NY) East End Arts is pleased to announce the exciting new art show at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, at the Jamesport Manor Inn (located at 370 Manor Lane in Jamesport, NY) featuring East End Arts members: photographer Anthony Lombardo of Water Mill and painter Toby Haynes of East Hampton.
The show opens on Friday, February 7, 2014 and will be up for viewing until April 30, 2014.
An Artists’ Reception will be held on Sunday, March 2 from 3 PM to 5 PM at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery, where the public will have the opportunity to meet the artists. Local wines and artisan cheeses will be served. The public is invited to this free event.
Anthony Lombardo has been a professional photographer for over 30 years. Currently he is photographing art for artists and producing fine art photography. In the past his studio photographed a variety of photo subjects from product packaging and point of purchase advertising to forensic medical photography. Clients have included Coca Cola, Pepsi, Seagrams, Phillip Morris, and Miracle Grow to name a few. Anthony’s photography has been published in national publications such as People and Time, plus local publications such as The New York Times, Daily News, Post, and Newsday newspapers and has been seen on CNN. Reviews of Anthony’s art photography have appeared in national and local newspapers and magazines. Anthony studied photography and art at the San Francisco Art Institute, but continued learning photography in commercial advertising studios. Major influences in his photography have been Walker Evans, Wright Morris, Ansel Adams, the Weston family, Man Ray, Irving Penn, and Richard Avedon.
British painter Toby Haynes has exhibited in countless solo and group shows at galleries and museums on the East End of Long Island. Toby reflects on his background and work: “My father was a signwriter, and I grew up surrounded by the smell of paint and turpentine; I have early memories of climbing ladders and scaffolding to help him work on rooftop signs or the paneled sides of heavy goods vehicles. Health and Safety would have been horrified. Although I went on to read German and Philosophy at Oxford, it was probably inevitable that I would end up as a painter. My work is uncompromisingly figurative, but varied in stylistic treatment, content and medium. No picture ever turns out exactly as originally conceived: I am not in control of the process, nor would I want to be. It’s the journey that’s interesting. I will change my technique or the colours on my palette if it starts to feel too familiar and comfortable. The materials and subject have a say in what becomes of them, and painting is always a form of negotiation or collaboration between us. I’m not so much interested in fleeting impressions as in what’s underneath them: everything we see is full of cultural and personal references, just as words are to a poet; and I want to tap into that – a ‘simple’ lamb or apple is abuzz with symbolism. But images must also ultimately have a life of their own, and make their own connection with the viewer without exegesis, independently of the artist.”

Exhibits at the Rosalie Dimon Gallery are a joint effort by East End Arts and the Jamesport Manor Inn to introduce exceptional artists and their work to the East End communities. East End Arts members who wish to be considered for exhibits at the Jamesport Manor Inn should have updated representations of work in the East End Arts Artist Registry at the East End Arts Gallery, located at 133 East Main Street, Riverhead, NY. The artists selected for East End Arts’ off-site gallery shows are chosen by committee.
