About The Authority Show:
“The Authority” Radio Show came to fruition after creator, Chris Catania, had finished his education in Broadcasting. Chris is a great example of the everyman…with an offbeat attitude and caustic nature. A fan of various people in the Radio Industry from Howard Stern to Opie and Anthony, along with television greats like Johnny Carson, and Comedian, Andy Kaufman, Chris wanted to assemble a broadcast team together to entertain and have lots of fun doing it. He reached out to some folks he was familiar with and pitched the idea for the show: a modern day variety show that incorporated pop culture, sex, and current events. A show everyone could relate to, to some extent.
After some personnel rotations, “The Authority” hit the airwaves on WLIE, a local Long Island Station. They acquired a small fan base via the social networking site, Myspace, and this audience began to grow. They began to book well known comedians, such as Becky Donohue (HBO, Comedy Central) and Michelle Buteau ( HBO, Best Week Ever, Comedy Central, Last Comic Standing, and various t.v. commercials). They also rolled the dice with some more risqué guests, such as XXX Legend, Inari Vachs, and host of local adult entertainers and models. As the guests grew so did their colorful differences….they went on to host: Boxers, Paranormal Investigators, Controversial Web hosts, Hypnotists, Professional Wrestlers, Psychics, and much more. With the success they had on WLIE, they were also able to use their notoriety to host two very successful cancer benefit shows for charity at Governor’s Comedy Club.
Unfortunately, as time passed, “The Authority” hit a speed bump. WLIE had changed format to an all religious station. With their tongue in cheek commentary and daring content, “The Authority” no longer had a spot on the station. Personnel had come and gone and after a sabbatical, Chris, wanted to get the show back together….bigger and better than before.
Chris had announced a contest on Myspace for a new female co-host, there were many responses, but ultimately, Jen Codi was the one who made the cut. With a raspy voice, keen intellect, and devilish demeanor, Jen, became part of the crew.
The two honed their skills together on some online audio sites like Lipodcastnetwork.com and Velocity Radio, but missed the excitement and exposure of terrestial radio. Jenn and Chris decided to move forward and thought maybe adding some members might enrich the show.
Chris reached out to a few of his friends in the broadcasting field and added two more members to the group. Time went on, and while on WGBB, the members they brought in decided to go in different directions, leaving Jenn and Chris to go forward. This decision actually enhanced the show, as Chris and Jenn really began to gel as a unit.
They went to add an intern named Matt and carried on. With a new direction, “The Authority”, raged forward hosting all manner of guests, such as Author Jack Levin, Radio Personality / Author / Psychologist ,Dr. Judy Kuriansky, Reality Stars Niki and Ambre from “Rock of Love 2”, Comedian, Joe Starr, and more.
“The Authority” also did some charity events to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Working with many of their sponsors, they donated time for a cause they felt very passionately about.
“The Authority” had a great level of success on WGBB, and did everything they could hope to accomplish there. They had a loyal cult following, great sponsors, but wanted to take the time to access their direction in order to deliver the most high quality shows possible.
“The Authority” is now back from hiatus and are embarking on a new project, The Last Run. “The Authority” have decided to come back to make it or break it. The goal: achieve their dreams and make it to satellite or FM. They’ve assembled a team of hard working people, booked some great guests, and have given themselves three months to grab the prize. This is their Last Run, hope you’ll join them for the ride.
