(Long Island, NY) The Village of Rockville Centre joins Governor Andrew M. Cuomo, the RVC Chamber of Commerce, and the RVC Fire Department to urge all residents to participate in the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program on Tuesday, September 29th at 7 P.M. at the John A. Anderson Recreation Center. The Citizen Preparedness Corps give residents the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions.
“History has taught us time and again just how dangerous and destructive hurricanes and other forces of nature can be,” commented Mayor Francis X. Murray. “I encourage all residents to participate in the New York State Citizen Preparedness Corps Training Program. Being prepared is your best defense to safely weathering a storm, or any other disaster.”
Training will be led by the New York National Guard, working with experts from the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services’ Office of Emergency Management and Office of Fire Prevention and Control. The training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or man-made disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. A key component of this training is distribution of free NYS Disaster Preparedness Kits to all participants (one per family) containing key items to assist individuals in the immediate aftermath of a disaster. The state training and kits will help New Yorkers be the most-trained and best-prepared citizens in the country.
“With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers are prepared for disasters and know what to do in an emergency,” stated Governor Andrew M. Cuomo in his 2014 State of the State Address.
Participants must register in advance at www. prepare.ny.gov. The two hour training session will take place at theJohn A. Anderson Recreation Center located at 111 N. Oceanside Road in Rockville Centre.
