Long Island School To Join Millions Of Students Across The Country In An Effort To Improve Nationwide Literacy Rate On “National Read Across America Day”
(Long Island, NY) Lt. Governor of New York State Kathy Hochul will join Brentwood School Board President Helen Moss and classes full of children Today, Wednesday March 2, 2016 at 11:30 a.m. at Hemlock Park Elementary School (19 Hemlock Dr, Bay Shore, NY) to help improve literacy and celebrate ‘Read Across America Day’ on the birthday of literary icon Dr. Seuss.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, the literacy rate in the United States hasn’t improved in over a decade. 32 million adults are illiterate, that’s 14% of the population that cannot read.
Read Across America Day is a nationwide reading celebration that takes place annually with millions of kids and teens at thousands of schools, libraries, and community centers around the country with the goal of encouraging and shining a light on literacy.
