(Long Island, NY) New Yorkers Against Gun Violence announced today its endorsement of State Senator Gipson (District 41) for re-election.
Leah Gunn Barrett, NYAGV Executive Director, said, “We are proud to endorse Senator Gipson for re-election. Terry Gipson cares about the safety of New Yorkers whcih is why he supported closing the private sale loophole on gun sales to keep firearms away from criminals, domestic abusers and the seriously mentally ill. He supported giving judges broader authority to remove guns from domestic abusers and to hand down stricter penalties for individuals convicted of gun crimes. His opponent, on the other hand, has pledged to repeal these important measures that are protecting victims of domestic violence and making our communities and schools safer.”
Barrett added, “Like us, Senator Gipson knows that smart gun laws save lives which is why New York has the fourth lowest gun death rate in the nation. We look forward to working with him in the upcoming legislative session to continue the tremendous progress our state has made to protect New Yorkers from the preventable scourge of gun violence.”
Senator Gipson said, “I’m proud of my record during my first term working across the aisle to pass common sense measures to keep our communities safe from gun violence. We have taken important steps to protect victims of domestic violence from firearms, enact strong background checks and keep firearms away from the seriously mentally ill.”
