Kaminsky has long supported gun safety measures and the SAFE Act
(Long Island, NY) Today, New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV) announced its endorsement of Assembly member and former federal prosecutor Todd Kaminsky to replace Dean Skelos in the NY State Senate. Throughout his career, Kaminsky has been a strong advocate for gun safety measures and has consistently supported the SAFE Act. Kaminsky’s record on gun safety runs in stark contrast to that of his opponent, Chris McGrath, who has consistently touted the support of the strongly anti-gun safety Conservative Party.
Leah Gunn Barrett, NYAGV Executive Director, said, “New Yorkers Against Gun Violence is proud to endorse Todd Kaminsky for State Senate. As a former prosecutor, Todd understands that common sense gun laws help reduce gun death and injury by keeping guns out of the wrong hands. Todd voted to close the private gun sale loophole to keep firearms away from criminals, domestic abusers and the seriously mentally ill. He supports providing law enforcement with the tools it needs, such as microstamping, to solve gun crimes. And he wants to protect children from unsecured guns in the home that can result in unintentional shootings and suicides. We look forward to working with Todd to continue the progress our state has made to protect New York families and communities from the preventable scourge of gun violence.”
“As a father and elected official, I believe that there is nothing more important than ensuring our communities are safe,” said Todd Kaminsky. “I am a strong supporter of gun safety legislation and this endorsement has a special meaning for me. The plague of gun violence must be stopped – and can be stopped – if we focus on getting guns out of the hands of dangerous people and the seriously mentally ill. I will always fight for what’s best for our families and not waiver to the corporate gun lobby. As a State Senator I will continue to advocate for common sense measures to finally rid our neighborhoods and communities of gun violence.”
The 9th Senate District seat became automatically vacant upon the conviction of Dean Skelos in December on charges of bribery, extortion and conspiracy. A special election to fill the 9th Senate District seat will be held on Tuesday, April 19th, 2016.
