(New York, NY) A new poll by Siena College shows that New Yorkers strongly support the NY SAFE Act a year after its passage by a two-to-one majority. According to the poll of New York voters, 63% supported the Act and 32% were opposed to it.
“Over one year after passage of the SAFE Act, New Yorkers from across the state overwhelmingly support this common sense law,” said Leah Gunn Barrett, NYAGV Executive Director. “NYAGV is committed to ensuring the appropriate enforcement of and education about the SAFE Act which we believe will protect all New Yorkers from gun violence.”
The New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act (NY SAFE) gives New Yorkers one of the most comprehensive gun safety laws in the nation, with provisions to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous individuals and bans on military-style a ssault weapons and high-capacity magazines. The Act has been upheld by federal and state courts despite attempts by the corporate gun lobby to block it.
