(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police have arrested a New York City man for driving while intoxicated with his 14-year-old daughter in the vehicle on Sunday, September 6.
Suffolk County Highway Patrol Officer Robert Rilling observed a 2015 Honda CRV traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 60 in Ronkonkoma with no tail lights and exceeding the speed limit. After stopping the vehicle, the officer discovered that the driver, Ramon Garcia, was intoxicated and the vehicle was occupied by members of Garcia’s family, including his 14-year-old daughter.

Garcia, 57, of Jackson Heights, was arrested and Fourth Squad detectives charged him with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child Passenger 15 Years Old or Younger (Leandra’s Law), Driving While Intoxicated and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Garcia’s daughter was released to other family members.
Garcia is being held overnight at the Third Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning at First District Court in Central Islip.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
