(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Bellport on Saturday, September 19.
Arce Catu, 24, was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit westbound on Montauk Highway when his vehicle struck a male pedestrian who was attempting to cross northbound on Montauk Highway, west of Bellport Avenue.

The pedestrian, Juan Mejia, 28, of Bellport, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Catu, of East Patchogue, was not injured.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
