(Long Island, NY) Suffolk Police County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Central Islip on Sunday, July 5.
Waldys Rivas-Coreas, 39, of Brentwood, was driving a 2003 Acura MDX northbound on Route 111 when his vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing Route 111 north of Olive Street at approximately 10:10 p.m.

The pedestrian, who has not yet been identified, was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore where he was pronounced dead. He is described as a Hispanic male, approximately 30 years old, 5 feet 1 inch tall and between 165 and 170 pounds.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety inspection. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
