(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad detectives are investigating an incident in which a pedestrian was struck and killed in East Patchogue on Friday, December 18.
Vanessa Clarke was driving a Hyundai Sonata northbound in the left lane of Sills Road when her vehicle struck a pedestrian who was crossing the roadway from west to east at approximately 8 p.m.

The pedestrian, Peter Alker, 56, of Mastic Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. Clarke, 36, of East Patchogue, and her two passengers, an adult male and a 1-year-old girl, were not injured. Clarke stayed at the scene.
The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or call anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
