September 17 Reading Kicks Off Visiting Writers Fall Program
(Long Island, NY) Poet/lyricist Frank Kelly will read from his collected works at Farmingdale State College on Thursday, September 17. The reading – the kick-off event in the fall Visiting Writers Program – will be held in the Great Room in Ward Hall at 11 a.m. The public is invited and the event is free.
Kelly, a former English professor at Farmingdale, has appeared in publications such as Breadcrumb Scabs, The Bicycle Review, andDanse Macabre. He co-authored book and lyrics for two musicals: The Texas Chainsaw Musical and Pageant. The latter played off-Broadway and across the US, and as far away as Japan and Australia. He also wrote lyrics and sketches for the satirical cabaret revue, Xmas! The Xpose! He authored his first book, Growing Up Me: A Memoir of Poems, in 2012.

The next event in the series features poet Douglas Basford on Thursday, October 8, followed by a November 12 appearance by poet/essayist Sherry B. Hanson.
Farmingdale’s Visiting Writers Program has featured readings by more than 150 American and international authors. The program highlights the importance of literature to education and culture. The annual Paumanok Award is an international award judged by faculty in Farmingdale’s English/Humanities department.
