(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police on Tuesday, September 22 arrested a woman for stealing jewelry from two jewelry stores in June.
Suffolk County Crime Stoppers issued a Crime Alert, asking the public’s help in identifying a woman who entered Jenna’s Jewelers, located at 2116 Deer Park Ave., Deer Park on June 13 at approximately 12:50 p.m. and stole four white gold engagement rings. First Squad detective Thomas Corso followed up on multiple tips given to Crime Stoppers and identified the suspect as Joanna Martinez.

With the assistance of Fifth Precinct Crime Section officers, Martinez, 29, of Bohemia, was arrested today at approximately 2:40 p.m. at her home. Further investigation revealed Martinez also was responsible for the theft of several pieces of jewelry that occurred at Remember Yesteryears, located at 901 Montauk Highway, Oakdale, on June 21, at approximately 4:30 p.m.
Martinez was charged with Grand Larceny 3rd Degree, and Grand Larceny 4th Degree. She is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on September 22.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
