(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are investigating a crash that critically injured a man in Patchogue on Tuesday, October 6.
Robert Hommel was traveling westbound on Sunrise Highway at a high rate of speed when he passed a marked police vehicle, and crashed into the Hospital Road cement column at approximately 2:20 p.m. Hommel was ejected out of the 2015 Audi through the sun roof, which was open at the time of the crash.

Hommel, 29, of Mastic, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue, in critical condition. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
