(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police today arrested a Selden man for leaving the scene of a boat crash that injured a woman in Patchogue on May 24.
A 23-foot 1987 Sea Ray boat crashed into the west jetty at the entrance of the Patchogue River at approximately 9:20 p.m. One of the boat’s passengers, Danielle Virgilio, 29, of Farmingdale, was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Witnesses reported that up to seven people were on the boat at the time of the crash. Several of the boat’s occupants were located nearby and interviewed by responding officers but were uncooperative.
A search of the surrounding waters was conducted to locate potential additional victims but none were found. The vessel suffered extensive damage and was secured in place.
Mark Tricarico, 31, surrendered to Fifth Precinct Crime Section officers today at approximately 1:30 p.m. at the Fifth Precinct and charged with Leaving the Scene of a Boating Accident Involving Injury. Tricarico was released on bail and will be arraigned at a later date.

The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
