(Long Island, NY) Suffolk County Police arrested a man after attacking an officer and fleeing from police at a hospital in West Islip on Friday, October 2.
Suffolk County Police First Precinct officers arrested Alexander Thomas in North Amityville last night at approximately 7 p.m. for several charges, including Criminal Possession of a Loaded Weapon 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, False Personation, Harassment, and Resisting Arrest.

He was tased during the arrest and subsequently transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip to be treated. While at the hospital, Thomas complained of chest pains.
Today, at approximately 12 p.m. while being treated at the hospital, Thomas assaulted a police officer and fled on foot through the adjoining neighborhood. Thomas was captured by a Canine officer and his dog approximately an hour later.
The prisoner and officer were treated at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center for minor injuries and were released.
Thomas, 25 of Huntington, faces additional charges of Escape 2nd Degree and Assault 2nd Degree. He is scheduled to be arraigned October 3 at First District Court in Central Islip.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
