(Queens, NY) On Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, Queens Council on the Arts reinvents itself as a catwalk for couture and cuisine to raise money for a stop gap scholarship fund at Manducatis Rusticated in Long Island City and presents the first Moveable Feast Artist Dinner, Hemlines & Waistlines: An evening where Couture meets Cuisine / An experience where Ready-To-Wear meets Ready-To-Eat featuring Queens Artist Mark Salinas and Celebrity Chef Dave Martin.

Visual Artist Mark Salinas introduces an edible evening of fashion, with guest presentations from NYC designers and fashion personalities. Signature looks, outrageous trends, and all-time favorites will be shared in this intimate dining setting, inspiring a multi-course menu never before seen on any runway. He will be accompanied by Celebrity Chef Dave Martin, Bravo TV’s Top Chef Season One Finalist, who will cut, cook, and style the delicious food and drink presentations inspired by fashion.
We will have 6 presenters whose invaluable work in the field of fashion and the community will provide inspiration to Top Chef Dave Martin’s culinary dishes.

Special presentation by Jan Reeder, Curator, Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, will speak about their upcoming show, Charles James: Beyond Fashion. The inaugural exhibition of the newly renovated MET Costume Institute will examine the career of the legendary twentieth-century Anglo-American couturier Charles James (1906–1978). Charles James: Beyond Fashion will explore James’s design process, focusing on his use of sculptural, scientific, and mathematical approaches to construct revolutionary ball gowns and innovative tailoring that continue to influence designers today. Examples will be on view at the dinner and will influence the main entree of the evening.
The funds will support scholarships for our students participating in the High School to Art School Portfolio Development Program.
