(Queens, NY) The hills of Queens will be filled with the sound of music this week with Tony Orlando, Salsa, acid rock, hip hop, Baroque classics from 1600 to 2015, big time karaoke, and a choral society. However, those with other tastes need not despair, as the borough will host comedy, art, cheese-making, and a few interesting lectures. Here’s the rundown.

Feb. 5, WEUSI Artist Collection, through March 24. This exhibit showcases work by WEUSI members. Feb. 6, Parthenia: Through the Labyrinth, 7:30 pm. Musica Reginae presents the Queens-based Parthenia Viol Consort playing music from 1600 to 2015 on Baroque instruments. Feb. 7, Experience the Winter Beach, 11 am. The sun, moon, and earth are in position to create a notable low tide. Explore the intertidal zone and walk the sea floor with American Littoral Society naturalist Mickey Maxwell Cohen, author of Adventures at the Beach, to observe the often-hidden biological treasures from beyond the tides. Feb. 7, Watershed Relief Map Presentation, 1 pm. To show off the city’s water system during the 1939 World’s Fair, the Cartographic Survey Force, a branch of the Works Progress Administration, constructed a 3D, 32’-by-20’ model of the system from wood and plaster. However, due to a fear of spies as World War II was approaching, it went straight into storage. NYC H2O Director Matt Malina presents the map, which is on long-term display, followed by a Q&A with civil engineers who worked on the water system. Suggested $5 entrance fee. Feb. 9, The Stories of Suitcases, 6:30 pm. When Willard Psychiatric Center closed in 1995, an employee discovered a large collection of suitcases in an attic.
