(Long Island, NY) Bill Lindsay, candidate for Suffolk County Legislator and son of former presiding officer, Bill Lindsay, blasted Anthony Musumeci for remaining silent when the unpopular Serota Properties Islip Pines project went before him on the Islip Town Planning Board.[1]
“He had the opportunity to stand up for the community and do what was right, but instead he chose to remain silent,” said Bill Lindsay. “The last thing our community needs are two more big box stores that are going to hurt small businesses and further congest our streets. If he won’t stand up to developers as a member of the planning board, how can we expect him to stand up for residents as a member of the Legislature?”
Bill Lindsay noted the Serota Properties Islip Pines project is going to have a negative impact on the quality of life through increased traffic congestion, overdevelopment and by strangling our small businesses.
The project is widely unpopular with residents, community groups, and small businesses – many who have been extremely vocal in their opposition. The West Sayville Civic Association President Brendan McCurdy said, “This development is just going to take the soul right out Sayville”[2] and the Holbrook Chamber of Commerce said the project will, “have a negative impact on existing retail centers in our surrounding downtowns.”[3]
“Having worked with my father in the community since I was young, I learned how important it is to work with and listen to residents, community groups and local businesses on how to build a better community. And from day one the message from the community has been crystal clear. We need to protect the identity and character of this district. That’s why it makes no sense that Anthony remained silent when he knew how opposed to this project the community was.”
