(Long Island, NY) U.S. Representatives Kathleen Rice (NY-04), Lee Zeldin (NY-01), Peter King (NY-02) and Steve Israel (NY-03) will hold a press conference TODAY at 11:30 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Eisenhower Park to call on Congress to pass the recently introduced Fairness for Veterans Act. Rice, Zeldin, King and Israel will be joined by local veterans, including Kris Goldsmith, an Iraq War veteran from Rice’s district who has worked to build support for the legislation in Congress.
In recent years, tens of thousands of combat veterans suffering from PTSD and traumatic brain injury have improperly received other-than-honorable discharges because of behavior related to their conditions, and as a result have been denied access to federally funded benefits and mental health care services. The bipartisan Fairness for Veterans Act, cosponsored by Rice, Zeldin, King and Israel, will make it easier for these veterans to upgrade their discharge status and access the benefits and health care they’ve earned.
