Expands Commercial Litigation Department and Long Island Office
(NEW YORK, NY) Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP, a leading law and government relations firm, is pleased to announce that Richard Gertler has joined the firm as a partner in its Commercial Litigation Group. He will work out of the firm’s Garden City, Long Island office. Mr. Gertler will continue his litigation practice, which focuses in the areas of commercial and bankruptcy litigation, business law, corporate governance, and commercial real estate. Mr. Gertler comes to the firm from Thaler Gertler, LLP, where he was a founding and managing partner.

Attorneys that comprise Davidoff Hutcher & Citron’s Commercial Litigation Group have extensive experience representing clients in a variety of forums – including federal and state courts, arbitration tribunals, regulatory agencies and private mediations – across a broad range of industries in matters addressing a wide variety of subjects, including business divorce, governance and shareholder disputes, breach of contract, fraud, real estate development, sale and leasing, and employment litigation, among others.

Mr. Gertler litigates a wide range of complex commercial matters involving corporate and shareholder disputes, commercial landlord/tenant issues, unfair competition, construction disputes and general business disputes. He also represents debtors, bankruptcy trustees, creditors and creditors’ committees in all phases of bankruptcy proceedings. When necessary, Mr. Gertler represents clients at arbitrations, mediations, court proceedings, or administrative hearings. Additionally, Mr. Gertler counsels businesses at all stages of development, from incorporation through dissolution, and advises them on diverse business transactions, including growth strategies involving acquisitions, mergers and joint ventures, and also advises on structuring their financial transactions, including obtaining secured or unsecured loans and other financing. Mr. Gertler is certified as a Mediator by the Commercial Division of the Nassau County Supreme Court of the State of New York, and is best known for his innovative and strategic approach to solving problems.

Mr. Gertler is admitted to practice law in the State of New York in both State and Federal Courts, as well as: The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, The United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, The United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and The United States Supreme Court. He obtained his BS in Business Administration focusing in Marketing and Finance at the State University of New York at Albany and his JD from Brooklyn Law School.
An active member of the Nassau County Bar Association, Mr. Gertler has served on numerous committees, including the Bankruptcy Committee, Litigation Committee, and Chair of the Joint Committee for Attorneys and Accountants. He is also a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Inns of Court and is active in several pupil groups. Mr. Gertler also lectures at forums for lawyers and businesspeople on a wide variety of topics and has presented for such organizations as the New York State Bar Association, the Nassau Academy of Law, NYS Society of CPA’s, Financial Planners Association, and Hofstra University.
His charitable, networking and community activities include various organizations including the counsel to the Board of Directors of the Syosset Chess Mates, a not-for-profit scholastic chess program, a member of the Executive Board of the Theodore Roosevelt Counsel of the Boy Scouts of America; Crossways Park Business Association; Team in Training, benefitting the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; University of Albany Lawyers Alumni Association; the Board of Governors of Cold Spring Country Club; American Bankruptcy Institute; the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys; Long Island Import Export Association; Turnaround Management Association – Long Island Chapter, Institute of Management Accountants, and Huntington Bicycle Club.
He recently has been recognized by LI Business News in Who’s Who in Corporate Law as one of Long Island’s leading corporate attorneys and received the “50 or so about 50” Award by LI Business News (October 2011).
