(Stony Brook, NY) The Ward Melville Heritage Organization will host its 17th Annual Chinese New Year Celebration on Sunday, January 26 at 1:30 pm in its Educational and Cultural Center in the Stony Brook Village Center. To usher in the “Year of the Horse,” the program will feature performances demonstrating many of the rich traditions and rituals observed during this festive celebration.

Sponsored by Astoria Federal Savings, the program will kick off with the dramatic nine-foot lion dance performed by Authentic Shaolin Kung Fu. Visitors will also be entertained by the unique sounds of the Stony Brook Taiko Drum Ensemble playing selections on their hand-crafted instruments and interacting with the audience. Additionally, a troupe of talented young dancers from The Spotlight Dance Academy of Stony Brook will perform a variety of Chinese dances transporting visitors to “the land of the rising sun.” There will also be a Year of the Horse Craft Activity for children immediately following the performances.
