Mr. Ford along with Cardiac Science donated 6 Automated External Defibrillators (AED) for the Rockville Centre Little League back in May. However, the giving did not stop. Mr. Ford is currently in the process of donating more AED devices to the soccer and lacrosse club in the Village as well. One of the donated AEDs has already been instrumental in saving a life.
According to the American Heart Association, heart disease strikes someone in the U.S. about once every 34 seconds. AED’s are a lightweight, portable device that delivers an electric shock through the chest to the heart. The shock can stop an irregular rhythm and allow a normal rhythm to resume in a heart in sudden cardiac arrest. Sudden cardiac arrest is an abrupt loss of heart function. If it’s not treated within minutes, it quickly leads to death.
“On behalf of our Village Board and all of our residents, I personally thank Al Ford for his concern and commitment to all of our residents,” commented Mayor Murray at Januarys board meeting.
