Schumer Personally Pushed TSA to Bring Program to Syracuse Airport Schumer, Miner Showcase Selection to Participate in the TSA Pre-Check Program as another Accomplishment for the Expanding Syracuse Airport Schumer, Miner: Now, Central New Yorkers Will Be Landing In Even Shorter Lines
(Syracuse, N.Y) U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer and Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner announced today that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Pre-Check program will commence operations in the City of Syracuse beginning on Thursday, October 10, 2013.
The Pre-Check program allows travelers to undergo background checks and pre-screening through the TSA and then utilize designated lanes for expedited screening at airports across the United States. This will be the first time a Pre-Check screening lane is opened at an airport serving Central or Northern New York.
“I am thrilled that TSA Pre-Check has landed in Syracuse,” said Senator Schumer. “Almost two years ago, I urged the TSA to launch Pre-Check at Hancock, which will allow pre-screened passengers to have a safer, hassle-free travel experience in and out of Central New York each day. With this expedited travel option in Syracuse as of Thursday, we will see increases in safety and efficiency for vacationers and business travelers alike and a boost in the local economy. I’m thrilled to have worked with Mayor Miner and helped make this a reality.”
“We are excited to welcome the new TSA Pre-Check program to the Syracuse Hancock International Airport,” said Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. “This program will give travelers from the Central New York region an opportunity to move quickly and conveniently through the screening and security process. This is another great addition to the rapidly growing Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
Schumer has long advocated for expansion of the Pre-Check program for all New York airports, and especially at Hancock due to its size, which is representative of most small to mid-sized airports. Pre-Check allows pre-qualified and frequent passengers to pass through security checkpoints more swiftly if they provide supplemental personal information, not required for regular security in airports, in advance of arriving.
The Syracuse Hancock International Airport has recently been the site of notable growth and development. Most recently, it was announced that Allegiant Airlines would begin twice weekly service to the City of Syracuse on November 7, 2013. The airport also recently opened its $60 million expansion which includes centralized security terminal. Mayor Miner and Senator Schumer also successfully advocated for the preservation of the midnight shift at the airport’s control tower.
