Pledges to Long Islanders to Support A Repeal of the “Death Tax
(New York, NY) Senator Lee Zeldin, Candidate for U.S. Congress in New York’s First Congressional District, today signed the Death Tax Repeal Pledge—proving once again that he is willing to stand up for Long Island taxpayers and fight for real relief and fiscal accountability if elected to Congress.
A project of the Family Business Coalition, the Death Tax Repeal Pledge is a promise to voters to actively protect taxpayers and their families by working to repeal the onerous federal estate tax.
“Long Islanders need tax relief,” said Senator Zeldin. “The death tax is an absolute insult to hardworking families and serves only to penalize those who worked dutifully to contribute to society throughout their careers. It requires families to sacrifice their assets and forces small businesses to divert capital that could be used to maintain the workforce and expand.”
The tax currently contributes only one percent of federal revenues and studies show that repealing the tax would actually lead to job creation and economic growth. In fact, according to Douglas Holtz-Eakin, the former Director of the Congressional Budget Office, a repeal of the death tax would add nearly one million additional jobs to the American economy.”At a time when we are still working toward full recovery, we cannot afford to ignore numbers like that,” continued Senator Zeldin.
“This is a pledge to the families struggling to survive and small businesses fighting to stay open all across Long Island. This is a pledge to all of the farmers on the east end of Long Island who want to see their land passed down to future generations and to the fishermen who want the tools of their trade preserved. This is a pledge to the senior citizens who spent their whole lives contributing to the Long Island economy.
This is a pledge to the driven entrepreneurs to help them succeed and grow their businesses in New York by getting government out of their way. I pledge to fight for balance, fairness, and responsibility within our nation’s tax policy without unfairly targeting hardworking, grieving families.” concluded Senator Zeldin.Senator Zeldin’s signing of this pledge comes on the heels of his signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge, in which he promised to oppose any and all tax increases, further solidifying his absolute commitment to fight for Long Island taxpayers.
