Matthew Gilmore, 25, pronounced dead at scene; third Central Islip shooting death in three days
(Long Island, NY) A Central Islip shooting in a rooming house on Tuesday afternoon has resulted in one man dead, stretching the number of recent shooting deaths in the area to three in as many days, according to the Suffolk County Police Department.
Matthew Gilmore, 25, was discovered dead of multiple gunshot wounds at approximately 2:30 p.m. in a home on Clayton Avenue by officers responding to a 911 call reporting shots fired at the location, police said. Gilmore was pronounced dead at the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, cops said.
Prior to Gilmore’s death, two other shootings in Central Islip have occurred within the past three days- Keenan Russell, 21, died at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore after being discovered with gunshot wounds on Acorn Avenue at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, and Derrick Mayes, 21, was discovered dead of dead of a gunshot wound on Wilson Avenue at 11:35 p.m. on Sunday, according to reports.
Police have released a statement saying that, while Russell’s and Mayes’ deaths may be linked, they appear to have no connection with Gilmore’s death. Police have not yet made any arrests on any of the cases.
