(Shoreham, N.Y.) Shoreham’s Jake DePaoli of the Boys U11 Sound Beach Strikers has been named a finalist for 2013 Goal of the Year by US Youth Soccer. This is the second consecutive year an LIJSL player has been a finalist for the award. Last year, Deer Park’s Nkosi Burgess of the BU15 Dix Hills Heat had his goal, an overhead kick with his back to the goal, recognized as the Goal of the Year by Eastern New York Youth Soccer, Region I, and US Youth Soccer.
Voting opened online on January 6th and will run through 12 pm on January 13th. People can view videos for all the finalists and cast their votes at http://www.usyouthsoccer.org/
After receiving numerous worthy submissions, US Youth Soccer has narrowed the field down to 10 Goal of the Year and 10 Save of the Year official nominees. The nomination process was open to any US Youth Soccer player in the Under-6 through Under-18 age groups. After the online voting is closed, the Goal and Save of the Year Awards will be announced at the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the US Youth Soccer Workshop at the NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia.
