(Long Island, NY) St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School has announced that their Spring Musical for this year will be Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. St. John’s will be the first Catholic High School on Long Island to perform “The Little Mermaid”, as its rights were only recently released. Opening night is scheduled for March 4th but there is already a sense of excitement among the students, faculty, and staff. “We are very excited to perform Disney’s The Little Mermaid on stage! Our directors, actors, dancers and singers are practicing with great enthusiasm and looking forward to providing their audiences with their very best performances!” stated Principal Nan Doherty.

The Musical Producer, Mr. Vincent Whitfield, also expressed his excitement over the production; “St. John the Baptist DHS is both pleased and excited to present the full stage version of Disney’s The Little Mermaid. This wonderful story of love, sacrifice and family will take us on a journey from a prince’s ballroom to the exciting world that exists “under the sea”! We invite you to join us for this family experience with beloved songs, special effects, and delightful characters.”
Two seniors, Miranda Cooper and Jillian Graffagnino, have been dual cast in the role of Ariel. When asked about being dual cast as Ariel, the two seniors stated,“It is very exciting to be playing the role of Ariel together. We are so impressed with everyone’s hard work and commitment so far and can’t wait to see the show come together.”
Historically, St. John’s has enjoyed a rich tradition of success with their Spring Musical. Several St. John’s graduates have gone on to perform in major productions all of over Long Island, on Disney’s Cruise Lines, and on Broadway. St. John’s performers are annually nominated for a variety of different Teeny awards, have received nominations to the prestigious Gershwin Awards Program in New York City, and have participated in the National High School Music Theatre Awards. All are invited to come out to see St. John’s production of The Little Mermaidat 7:30pm on March 4th, 5th, and a 2pm performance on March 6th.
