(Long Island, NY) The following statement was released today by New York State Senate Co-Leader Dean Skelos:
I am pleased to join Senator Klein in welcoming Queens Senator Tony Avella to our Senate Majority Coalition.
Tony Avella is an independent voice and a straight shooter, and he’ll be an asset to this historic coalition. Like us, he understands that New Yorkers don’t want partisanship, finger pointing or blame, they want Democrats and Republicans to work together to get results.
This decision is another stunning rebuke to the old Senate Democratic conference, which raised taxes by $14 billion and wildly overspent the budget during their brief stint in the majority.
Working with the Independent Democratic Conference, we’ve made real progress in rolling back those taxes, making it more affordable to live and work in New York, and erasing the dysfunction of their disastrous two-year reign. This year, we’re committed to passing another on-time budget that cuts taxes, grows our economy, and secures the future New Yorkers want and deserve.
The Senate Majority Coalition has made tremendous progress in creating greater opportunity for hardworking, middle-class taxpayers and their families, and it’s here to stay.
