(Long Island, NY) Leah Gunn Barrett, NYAGV Executive Director, made the following statement following the mass shooting in South Carolina.
“We are saddened by yet another horrible mass shooting last night of nine worshippers at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, SC. The tragedy occurred because an unstable young man had easy access to a gun. No one should have to fear gun violence in a house of worship, in our schools or in our communities. This is not the first time nor sadly the last time this kind of atrocity will occur.
We hope that Congress will finally find the courage to enact laws to stop the endless slaughter and to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. In the meantime, we will honor the victims and survivors of this latest shooting by pledging to continue our fight to keep our communities safe from gun violence.”
